Madonna 'loitered' at Wallis Simpson's house

Madonna used to ''loiter like some weirdo'' in front of the building where the subject of her film 'W.E.', Wallis Simpson, once lived.

Madonna used to "loiter like some weirdo" in front of the building where Wallis Simpson used to live.

The singer is making her directorial debut with 'W.E', about the American mistress of King George VI whom he gave up the throne to marry in 1936, and admits the building where she used live in London fascinated her.

She told Sunday Times Culture magazine: "I filmed right around the corner and I did often go in front of her building and just stand around and loiter, like some weirdo, hoping to pick up something left in the air, some kind of magic left behind.

I tried to imagine the king driving up every day for cocktails. And it turned out my daughter's best friend lives in that building, so I was able to go inside.

Madonna – who married British director Guy Ritchie and moved to England in 2000 - also said she felt she could "relate" to Wallis' situation.

She added: "I could relate to her feeling an outsider. I think Id' moved here and got married and had to start my life all over again. I felt like I didn't know anybody, and had no circle of friends, so there must have been an unconscious connection there."

'W.E.' is in cinemas from January 20.

The 'X Factor' judge and Jeff Bratton called time on their 18 month relationship in November and the record label owner has revealed it was due to work commitments.

He said: "Paula and I split in November. It was an amicable thing. But between the final months of 'X Factor' and my responsibilities with (my label) Cascine, there was little time for us."

The distance in their relationship is also said to have been a contributing factor, with Paula based in Los Angeles, while Jeff spends most of his time in New York.

The pair first met on a flight in 2010, but always made a joint effort to keep their romance out of the spotlight.

And Jeff is adamant he and Paula are still on good terms.

He explained: "We're still close. And I'll always be grateful for the time we shared as a couple."

Paula, 49, isn't the only judge on the new US version of 'The X Factor' to split from their boyfriend.

Nicole Scherzinger and her partner, Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton, ended their four year relationship in October due to work pressures.

However, the pair spent New Year's Eve (31.12.11) together at a ski resort in Vail, Colorado, and have both admitted since the break-up that they still have very strong feelings for one another.

Tom Hiddleston "nearly wept, laughed and cried," when offered the starring role in 'War Horse'.

The 31-year-old actor was shocked when director Steven Spielberg called asking to meet him about his World War I epic, and found himself even more taken aback when he was offered the role straight away.

He explained to The Independent newspaper: "I remember going home and thinking 'What is happening to my life? How did I get here? I'm about to meet one of my heroes! Don't f**k it up!'

"[When he then offered me the part] I nearly whooped, wept, laughed and cried."

Tom's profile has risen fast, with him appearing in 'The Deep Blue Sea', 'Unrelated' and then as villain Loki in 'Thor', which led on to a tie-in part in 'The Avengers', in which he got to meet some of the biggest stars in Hollywood - although he found it "bizarre" to see them in costume.

He added: "There was one day when, as Loki, I was sat on some steps, staring at the Avengers in front of me. It would be quite odd just to look at a grouping that involves Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Samuel L Jackson, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner and Chris Hemsworth.

"But the fact that they were dressed in the most outlandish hero costumes was bizarre! And I thought to myself, 'This is the dizzy heights.'"
