Johnny Depp varnishes his cool image

The veteran pin-up dipped his digits in varnish and dressed up to the nines for the premiere of his new movie.
Clad in a three-piece suit, a flat cap and tinted glasses, the big screen star made a relatively rare public appearance for the New York launch of his latest film The Rum Diary.
The ever youthful 48-year-old also posed alongside his co-star Amber Heard ahead of the event held at the city's Museum Of Modern Art last night.
Actress Amber ? who came out as a lesbian last year ? sported a slicked-back hairdo, black frock and an impressive application of make-up.
The film is an adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson's debut novel, based on the exploits of a U.S. journalist who takes on a job in Puerto Rico in the 1950s and struggles to adapt to life on the island.

Johnny risked denting his stylish reputation to pose in an unflattering pair of boxers for the film's poster.
